Fátima
Four extraordinary destinations in one day — from the spiritual heart of Portugal to medieval walls, Gothic monasteries and dramatic ocean cliffs. The Portugal beyond Lisbon is breathtaking.
Faith, History
& the Atlantic
This is the tour that reveals the soul of central Portugal. In a single extraordinary day you will stand in one of the world's most important pilgrimage sites, walk through a UNESCO Gothic masterpiece, watch the Atlantic from a clifftop fishing village, and wander the cobblestone lanes of a perfectly preserved medieval town.
Your guide Nikolai — licensed under RNAAT n° 512/2025 — brings every destination to life with stories, context and local knowledge that no guidebook can offer. The entire day is 100% private, at your own pace, door-to-door.
Four Destinations,
One Day
Sanctuary of Fátima
In 1917, three young shepherd children reported a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary on this hillside — and the world changed forever. Today the Sanctuary of Fátima is one of the most visited Catholic pilgrimage sites on earth, welcoming over six million visitors every year. Walk the vast esplanade, visit the Chapel of the Apparitions where the visions occurred, enter the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, and light a candle in the candlelight-filled church of the Holy Trinity. Whether you come for faith or for history, Fátima is profoundly moving.
Batalha Monastery
Just 15 kilometres from Fátima stands one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the world. Built to honour a Portuguese military victory in 1385, the Monastery of Batalha took over 150 years to complete and was decorated by the greatest craftsmen of four successive reigns. The highlight is the Capelas Imperfeitas — the Unfinished Chapels — seven roofless octagonal apses open to the sky, their intricate stonework frozen mid-construction for over 500 years by order of a king who never returned. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
Nazaré — Waves & Fresh Seafood
Perched on a dramatic cliff above the Atlantic, the village of Sítio offers one of the most spectacular views in Portugal — looking down at the long crescent beach of Nazaré where, each winter, the world's biggest surfable waves have been ridden. The beach town below is a lively fishing village of painted boats, drying octopus and the freshest grilled fish you will ever taste. The perfect place for a long lunch — your guide will recommend exactly where to sit and what to order.
Óbidos — Medieval Walled Town
The day ends in one of Portugal's most enchanting villages — a perfectly preserved medieval town enclosed entirely within 12th-century walls. Step through the main gate and into a world of cobblestoned lanes, whitewashed houses draped in bougainvillea, and a castle that has stood since the Moorish era. Climb the walls for views over the terracotta rooftops and the rolling hills of Estremadura. Before you leave, taste Ginjinha — the famous sour cherry liqueur traditionally served in a tiny chocolate cup. A perfect ending to an extraordinary day.
The tour begins with an optional shopping stop at the Fátima Commercial Center — a great opportunity to pick up Portuguese souvenirs, religious items, local products and snacks for the road before the spiritual heart of the journey begins.
